heh heh heh heh heh... I've been rushing madly through another book the past 2days after finishing Pratchett. This book is titled 'Uglies' and set in some era a few milleniums away from ours. I nearly didn't make it past the 3rd page 'cos I thought the story didn't make sense. Until I realised tt era-gap thingy. Well, the story goes abit like the Matrix - a self-contained civilisation where everyone starts as a Littlie, then an Ugly at 12, before becoming a Pretty at 16. So Basically, you get a total makeover at the age of 16 to make you into a very typical pretty person. The Uglies live in Uglyville (duh) and the Pretties in New Pretty Town. After you get turned into a Pretty, you will become a middle Pretty, a late Pretty, and then a Crumbly. Btw, new Pretties just party all night and sleep in the day. They have super, uber, high tech stuff, like a hole in a wall that spews out whatever clothes you want. The Uglies, them being the rebellious ones, usually play tricks, using nano-tech glue, riding on the hoverboard and sneaking into New Pretty Town. Typical. So a group of people, the Neos, find out the truth about their world and escape into the outside world, where mostly OUR present buildings are ruins to them and we are called the Rusties. (i hate the way that sounds) So apparently they were taught that Rusties were stupid people who cut down trees to burn them, rode around in cars on the ground, wasted alot of steel in our buildings and ate animals. (oh well, typical again) Blah.. the story ends with our heroine going under the knife herself so that she gets to find out what really happens during one of these mysterious operations. It's a triology, so I gotta plough through the library before I get my hands on the second book. Btw the next book is titled 'Pretties' and the 3rd 'Specials'. (the Specials are the law-enforcers to stop the heroes and heroines from doing their job. such a spoiler, huh)heh heh heh heh heh...
